Year 2 had a busy start to the semester with a trip to London to see I Object, an exhibition about objects of Protest from The British Museum curated by Ian Hislop followed by an excellent talk and q&a session from Chris Clarke, Deputy Creative Director of The Guardian at their headquarters in Kings Cross. The visit the The Guardian and Observer Education Centre enabled students to hear about the history and context of the paper and the changing shape of news and communication. Chris Clarke talked through the design branding and development of different aspects of the paper and was joined by Ben Longden, digital designer, who talked through the online edition and app and how design is developed across platforms. This was a great start to the students’ current project Newsfeed which looks at communication and current affairs through editorial design.
