On the 4th November, third year Graphic Design & Illustration students at WSA pitched their responses to an industry partnered brief to the creative director of Bear, Roberto D’Andria, and the creative strategy partner of ico, Russell Holmes. Students were given two fictional entrepreneurs to create a brand for. In response, they created a huge number of ideas and concepts, ranging from a Fight Club-style secret meat eating club where the lucky few were able to play ‘meat roulette’, to pet friendly ready meals created by Sam and his cat Sal. This project presented students with real world problems to solve and a complex set of outcomes to create, but pleasingly the WSA students were certainly up to the challenge. Both Roberto and Russell commented on the quality of ideas and the commercial potential of much of the thinking. This all bodes well for the final year ahead and the employment possibilities that will open up for this talented bunch of young people. At the end of a long day of presentations, Russell, Roberto and the third year team shortlisted several students to develop the project further for publication on the websites of Bear and ico, and in a publication that will be produced through a collaboration between Bear, ico and Studio 3015 (our in-house design studio). After long discussion and lots of deliberation, 8 students were selected and we look forward to giving them the good news on Friday 7th November.
