In keeping with the ‘book-making’ theme of our final 1st year project, photography tutor Kevin Newark organised a screening of ‘How to Make a Book with Steidl‘ by director Jörg Adolph this Friday. This surprisingly humorous ‘fly on the wall’ documentary about Gerhard Steidl and his legendary press is a real treat and well worth seeing if you didn’t make the screening. Gerhard is a fascinating character — awkward perfectionist printer but also art director of and confidant to the big name photographers and designers who form his clientele. The meticulous production process that goes into the books is revealed in detail, alongside the fascinating creative process of translating unique photographic work into a ‘multiple’ form. Look out for more films being shown in this 2pm Friday slot / Cinema room / Graphics Building.
