Working with Professor of Neuroscience Lindy Holden-Dye from the School of Biological Sciences at Southampton University we set our 1st year students the task of using information design to visualise data relating to a range of mental health conditions. The challenge of this brief was to find an effective and engaging way to show the stats without falling into the trap of producing what Edward Tufte describes as chart-junk! We felt the following students managed to strike a good balance. In order of appearance some examples from: Jake Sharpe, Aleksandra Kowalska, Kim Jones, Melissa Collins and Eric Chong. Thanks again to Lindy who gave up her time to help facilitate this project — we look forward to working with the scientists again next year!!
